News (continued)
Youthreach Online! Youthreach.ie is now available online. It takes over from the previous site (youthreach.org) which will remain available for some time yet. The new site is still in the testing stage and corrections and comments are welcome and encouraged. Much of the content is being changed, not that you would notice straight away. Every opportunity is taken in the new website to provide follow-on links to connected organisations and websites. Otherwise there is less content and as such the site should load very quickly. Youthreach.ie is aimed at a wide audience. It will serve the growing number of Youthreach Centres with news and information. It will provide students with a 'virtual' display case for their work and activities. It will serve schools and the public looking to find out more about the second-chance education sector. It will provide information on the service to our European colleagues. It will be Youthreach on the worldwide stage. Changes One big change is that all centres now have their own 'page'
which is accessed by clicking on a 'hotspot' on a map of
Ireland. Other options include an alphabetical list of centres
and sorted lists of centres by VECs and networks. |

For the first time these pages are available independently over the world wide web. The Youthreach centre in, say, Fermoy, Co Cork, has it's own address of www.youthreach.ie/fermoy and this is also the case for the eighty plus centres throughout the country. As with most internet addresses it is all in lowercase. All the following centres (remember the lower case) have the same facility as the above example - arklow, ashbourne, athy, ballaghaderreen, ballina, ballinasloe, ballincollig, ballinrobe, ballyfermot, ballymahon, ballymun, ballyshannon, bandon, basinlane, blanchardstown, bonnybrook, bray, buncrana, cavan, clara, clondalkin, clondalkinystu, deanstreet, delvin, drogheda, dundalk, dungarvan, edenderry, ennis, enniscorthy, fermoy, galway, glen, gortachoirce, harmonstown, hiwaycafe, hospital, kells, kilkenny, killaloe, killarney, killinarden, killorglin, kilrush, kiltimagh, kingscourt, knocknacorry, knocknaheeny, leitirmoir, leixlip, letterfrack, letterkenny, lifford, limerick, listowel, lucan, mallow, middleton, miltown, mountmellick, navan, navanprogression, newross, nggst, rathfarnham, roscrea, rush, sallynoggin, shanagolden, shannon, sligo, stfrancis, swords, templemore, tipperary, tralee, traleelca, transition, tuam, waterford, wexford, wicklow and youghal. This new site is being hosted by the National Centre for Technology in Education, although this is not visible to the user. The new website is relying on visitors to give feedback and provide interesting links. You can email the webmaster here.
